The Tagish River Habitat Protection Area is located in the Traditional Territory of the Carcross/Tagish First Nation and the asserted traditional territory of the Taku River Tlingit First Nation.
This area is an important channel connecting Tagish Lake to Marsh Lake, on the upper Yukon River drainage system.
The Carcross/Tagish First Nation identified this area as a Habitat Protection Area under the Carcross/Tagish First Nation Final Agreement. Together Carcross/Tagish First Nation, the Government of Canada, and the Government of Yukon will create a management plan following the principles set out in Chapter 10, Schedule C of the Carcross/Tagish First Nation Final Agreement.
